PROFILE
President of Montgomery
Architecture and Planning, Inc., Rob is responsible for a wide variety of
project types including; Biological Research Facilities, Corporate Operation
Centers, Residential (both custom and multi family), Religious, Retail, and
Medical. Services provided range from programming and feasibility studies
to master planning to comprehensive design and project delivery.
Rob, his wife and
associate Audrey, and their three boys have lived in Beaufort, S.C. since
1990. Prior to forming Montgomery Architecture & Planning, Inc., Rob was
partner at FMF Architects in Beaufort; an Associate with Kidd Plosser
Sprague & Associates in Birmingham, AL; and an intern architect with
Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates in Atlanta, GA. Rob has also
been involved on the construction side of things; building four houses since
the early eighties; and continues to enjoy wood working, designing and
building furniture as a hobby.
Throughout these
experiences, Rob’s love and understanding of the landscape instilled in him
in his youth has been a constant rudder, giving direction and purpose to his
design process. His community involvement since coming to Beaufort has
helped in developing a new dimension to this understanding; that is the
adaptation of a regions inhabitant’s to their surroundings and vice-versa.
The ties of a people to their land were at one time inextricable and the
resulting culture was influenced greatly by the inherent natural
characteristics of the region. With today’s technology and global
influences, this is not necessarily true anymore. Rob believes it still
should be, and strives to continue to be influenced in his work by the
regional.
