With the increasing population in and around Sheldon, South Carolina and the lack of shopping facilities in this primarily agricultural area, the proposed Parish Market Grocery Store was an ideal solution for all parties involved. The heavily wooded 6.4-acre site located on Highway 17 provided an ideal backdrop for a community store. In keeping with the local character of the region the Owner wanted to recreate a rustic rural marketplace, modeled after a traditional gristmill. During the design process and in an effort to reduce building costs a pre-manufactured metal building was implemented to become the envelope for the store. Essentially two metal building packages were combined: a high bay for entry and check-out; and the second, a low slope building for the stock aisles. This resulted in an overall project cost of forty-two dollars per square foot.
